Trainings and Tools

cewas South Asia focuses on strengthening young entrepreneurs for coping up with water and sanitation issues in urban India through innovative technologies.

We develop tailor-made trainings and tools for local and international professionals, local universities, local governmental authorities and NGOs who are already operating in the fields of water and sanitation.

SSWM Toolbox

Today, the SSWM Toolbox (More information at - http://www.sswm.info/) is the most comprehensive collection of tools and approaches on water management and sustainable sanitation.

NaWaKit Toolbox

The NaWaKit (More information at - http://www.sswm.info/category/step-nawatech/introduction) is a Specific Topic Entry Page (STEP) to the SSWM Toolbox that was developed by the NaWaTech Training Partners, NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur) and ESF (Ecosan Services Foundation, Pune) in collaboration with cewas South Asia, co-financed by the European Commission and the Science and Technology Department of the Indian Government.

The NaWaKit contains all the key results and gathered information of the R&D Project NaWaTech that aims at maximising the exploitation of natural and compact technical systems and processes for the effective management of municipal water resources in urbanised areas of India.

The NaWaKit has been designed to provide the needed technical and business strategy tools to support water practitioners when conceiving, launching and growing a new venture in the water and wastewater sector. Furthermore, this STEP presents key information about technological options for the implementation of appropriate technologies.

Compendium of NaWaTech Technologies

The Compendium of NaWaTech Technologies is intended as a reference for water professionals in charge of planning, designing and implementing sustainable water systems in the Indian urban scenario, based on a decentralised approach. This does not aim to be an engineering manual for the detailed design and construction, and the objective of the NaWaTech consortium is to inspire practitioners, igniting the shift from the conventional end-of-pipe thinking to intelligent practices to come up with sustainable solutions to the water and sanitation crisis in urban India.

Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies

The Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies, a compilation of appropriate sanitation technologies, was developed by Eawag to enhance knowledge and capacity in sustainable sanitation on a global scale.

The Compendium is a guidance document for engineers and planners in low- and middle-income countries, primarily intended to be used for communicative planning processes involving local communities. It is also intended for persons/experts who have detailed knowledge about conventional high-end technologies and require information on infrastructure and different system configurations. It is not intended as a stand-alone document for engineers, making decisions for the community, e.g., expert-driven decision-making.

Faecal Sludge Management Systems Approach for Implementation and Operation

This is the first book dedicated to Faecal Sludge Management. It compiles the current state of knowledge of this rapidly evolving field, and presents an integrated approach that includes technology, management and planning.

It addresses the planning and organization of the entire faecal sludge management service chain, from the collection and transport of sludge and treatment options, to the final en d use or disposal of treated sludge. In addition to providing fundamentals and an overview of technologies, the book goes into details of operational, institutional and financial aspects, and provides guidance on how to plan a city-level faecal sludge management project with the involvement of all the stakeholders.
